Gardening chores for the fall

by Michael McDermott on August 19, 2009

Well I have had my fill of blanching and freezing tomatoes, peppers and beans I am looking very much forward to my fall gardening plans.

1. Transplant and Splitting – I plan to dig in and split out my creeping phlox, day lilies and hosta. It’s getting way too crowded in there!!

2. Soil replenishment – I rarely focus on soil health but plan to test and treat my gardens this fall so that my spring blooms are ready to go.

3. Bulb plantings – I love the fresh bursts of color that my tulips give to my garden in the spring. I plan to double my tulips.

4. Frost protection – If we have an early frost again this year I may have to do some early preventative maintenance (covering, sheltering, etc)

I found this video that describes some good fall gardening tasks that may help you out too!
